Peachtrees sign!

Had a window of time before work. I used magnetic strip (100yen/1 pound shop) to attach the signs.
The bottom 3 levels detach from the top 2, so the sign must also be detachable.
I polarized the pieces of magnetic strip using a stack of rare earth magnets on 2 corners. This makes the magnetic strip pieces line up with each other and keeps the sign straight.
I put another one on the other side but facing front so you can see a sign from front or side.
Also had a go at drybrushing white on the screens. Could be better but I reckon I'd better stop before I ruin them.
I'll add some weathering (tamiya weathering kit) on the buttons, make them a bit less bling. Hopefully get that done tonight.

Peachtrees controls and more!

Tonight I had just enough time to put more transfers on the control panels.

While it was drying I made another piece of street furniture using Platformer terrain by Pegasus. The Hexagon is far superior and doesn't need glueing.
With some spare plasticard and toy-firetruck ladders I made a big billboard.
It's a bit front heavy so I'll need to add stabilizers, probably from the deadzone spares.
Not sure what poster to put on there yet.

Peachtrees controls and doors!

First thing I did this morning was to hot-glue on the interior doors. These are deadzone doors that I painted last year. They don't clip onto the deadzone terrain so I put them aside for a rainy day. Today was that day, although hot and sunny. I expect they'll pop off at some point and need superglueing.
I put them on "upside down" because they look better that way.
After that I decided to tackle the screens on the control panels. I used white to paint charts on the smaller screens.
Then I used the white to base coat the buttons and lights.
When that dried I used a selection of bright colours to paint the buttons and lights.

Finally today I started applying transfers onto the bigger screens using clear gloss varnish and cheesy gundam transfers.
I'll add more text transfers to the blank parts of the screens and do a very light highlight dry brush to make them look more like screens. Hopefully tonight...

Peachtrees details!

Finally had a chance to do more work on the Peachtrees.
I used a watered down citadel black to dull the bling on the control panels, window shutters and vents.
Looks much better. I also decided to paint the rectangular shapes in the control panels as monitors. A base coat of orc hide shade then I'll paint details on each screen and use decals.
The smaller screens will have graphs on and the bigger screens will maybe have text.

Peachtrees progress!

I added rust to the external doors and continued doing the shutters, floors and fans.

I also sponged some chocolate brown on the internal walls to make them look grimy and make them less flat.
It's currently under my desk avoiding being kicked, stepped on or hit with the vacuum cleaner.

Here you can see the grime effect of the sponged-on brown.
The control panels need a lot of work doing. I also wanna put a dark wash on the window shutters and the under-window vents.
I also wanna put graffiti and some other details.

Peachtrees fun bit!

Had a bit of time this evening so I got stuck in with the paints. Chocolate brown sponge dabbing on the hazard stripes.

Boltgun metal on shutters and metal bits with undercoat of brown for the rust effect. Floors sponge dabbed with adeptus grey.

The blades on the fan were highlighted with Boltgun metal and the external doors painted Boltgun metal too.
Only did the top floor so far. Will see how it looks in daylight, then do the rest.

Peachtrees rusty fencing

I got the brushes out finally and put chocolate brown on the mesh parts then over brushed Boltgun metal in patches to give a rusty effect.
Hope to get more done sometime this weekend.

Peachtrees doors!

The external doors were the last bit of taping for a while.
Hazard stripes around the doors.
The last couple of doors I forgot to tape up but they look really cool.
The bleed over can be easily painted over.

Peachtrees sign!

It's 1am and I had a chance to re-apply the letter stencil (6 times in the case of E) and lightly spray over with red. Came out like this:
I like it and there's kind of a mist glow effect. Here's what it looks like against the building itself.
Totally liking the misty neon effects - very Blade Runner. Who needs an airbrush?!

Peachtrees sign!

I cut 2 bits of some thick plasticard and sprayed them mat black. I'm terrible at freehand so I used some 1" stencils.

Peachtrees has 3 E's so I had to use the letter E 6 times. I sprayed mat white.
The first E is a bit screwed, but I decided it's no big deal. It'll reflect the run-down nature of the building.
I think I'll go over it with another colour.
The colour in the film is peach. I'll have to go for red, blue, green or yellow. I already did plenty of yellow hazard stripes, so I won't choose that. Green isn't bright enough and blue isn't either. I'll do red, maybe a light over-spray, see if I can get a pink effect.

Peachtrees WIP

Got home and assembled the building as it is so far. Very happy. Lots of work still to do, but the colours really work.

Peach trees hazard striped!

I finally finished taping off and spraying the hazard stripes.
Before I start painting floors, weathering and details, I want to stencil spray some things. Probably number the floors, peach trees sign, danger area near fans marked off. Maybe some decals. Graffiti goes on last.
Luckily I bought a massive roll of masking tape (craft tape) for super cheap from the homestore.

The Painting of Peachtrees

The first step was to prime the whole thing black. I used some cheap mat black spray. It worked fine.
Once that dried, I used newspaper and masking tape to cover the interior and the fan. I used krylon mat grey and set the building on its side and sprayed lightly from the top of the building towards the bottom, to highlight the raised parts.
Before and after.
It dried quite quickly as there was very strong wind.
I then taped up the interior re-using the masking tape and newspaper. I used krylon rust red for the interior walls. Again I sprayed top-down to leave the texture details black.
I really like this colour.
Using some thin masking tape I marked out hazard stripes around the edge of each floor. Then I sprayed it mat white followed by yellow. It doesn't matter if it's messy as I can clean it up with black paint or weathering.
Currently about half way through this stage.
The black part of the floor will be sponge weathered with dark gray (adeptus battle grey). I used that colour on my deadzone and it looks awesome.

Mega City 1 terrain

Last summer I bought a bunch of Robogear starter boxes from eBay.
Aside from the vehicles which are good for 'bits', it comes with a bunch of great sci-fi terrain called Hexagon. This has been made by Airfix, Imex, Pegasus and several other companies I think.
I decided to use this to make street furniture and details for the insides of peachtrees and Deadzone buildings.
Here are a few things I made. The long walkway will be split into 2 walkways and used to connect buildings outside peachtrees.
The lookout tower can go anywhere, probably not in peachtrees.
The computer banks/control panels can be used inside buildings throughout the city.
I really like the angular nature. Not just right-angles. I'm thinking of putting trees in here. Like some kind of arboretum (tree habitat).
I'm gonna put trees/plants in this and something special on the flat piece (it's a surprise).
This will also contain foliage.
Maybe I'll keep the walkway long. It does look pretty cool.
